Patrick Mahomes on track for Week 1 after ACL recovery
Kansas City's quarterback is ahead of schedule and pushing to open the season with no restrictions.
Patrick Mahomes is running ahead of the timeline for the torn ACL and LCL he suffered in his left knee last December. Roughly seven months on, he is reported to be nearing full clearance — comfortably inside the nine-month window that injury usually demands — and the Chiefs have described the rehab as ahead of schedule.
He handled spring work on a limited basis, taking 7-on-7 reps while sitting out full 11-on-11 team drills, and is expected to be cleared for contact by the end of training camp. Mahomes has repeatedly said his goal is to start the opener — a Monday night date with Denver — with no restrictions.
Fantasy impact
Draft him as a locked-in QB1, but spend a late pick on a backup. Full clearance is expected by the end of camp, and any setback once he hits team drills would put the opener in question.
